DUTCH STORE OFFERS ONLINE DJ-COURSE
Article: News (2006-08-08)

'It's a pay once deal and then the user can log-in the whole year, allowing the would-be DJ to refer to tips and advice over the 12 months.'
Dutch department store Hema is offering online DJ courses. Well known family chain Hema offers access to the course which will inform beginners of every aspect of spinning including the technical side of DJing, laptop performing and even mixing in key. The move is a surprise as the chain does not sell dj-gear or music, the course is just a service in itself.

Hema's Bernard Slinkert said. "We want to offer a course for beginners who want to get into DJing. It is not our intention to groom the next big player. Our course is more of an introduction, just as you would if you went to France and needed some language tips. You can follow a cost effective course with us at your own pace".

The courses can be purchased online or instore from 4 September. It's a pay once deal and then the user can log-in the whole year, allowing the would-be DJ to refer to tips and advice over the 12 months.

DJ schools have risen in popularity since the explosion of super star DJs in the late 90s. A DJ school was set up in Holland recently, having a presence at the recent Dance Valley festival in Holland. The US has a Scratch Academy based in NY, LA and Miami and Tel Aviv has a renowned DJ school which covers all aspects of electronic music called Musica Plus.

Hema's course will be seen as a bit of fun with an informal guide to the basics of mixing, time will tell if this concept is well-timed, with arguably less wannabe DJs trying to break the circuit than a few years back. Nevertheless this initiative does show continued interest in the next generation coming through for the art of DJing.

Hit up the link to take the introduction course free (in Dutch only) as a start and check out the links to the other DJs schools globally.
