Another interview has landed to all of you, today we bring you the well known guys behind the massive label of Mistiquemusic and their sub labels, the great duo of Michael & Levan. To be even more exclusive to all of you, they put together an exclusive set to the viewers of Progressive House Worldwide. If you read the whole interview you will find it in the end. Great guys with a different story. Go ahead and learn a bit more about the guys that brings you pure quality progressive music week after week! First of all, we are truly happy that you have taken you time to make this interview happen, it’s an honor for us. For those that don’t know it, you have been running the Mistiquemusic label since 2008. But let’s take everything from the beginning.

Could you tell us the story about Michael & Levan. Who are you, were do you come from and how did you get in to the music industry?

Greetings to all from Michael & Levan. Let’s introduce ourselves to you. We are musicians brothers living in small country of Georgia. Our life streams in Tbilisi town. We both live under one roof and accordingly we write music almost always together. Each of us already has a family with one little baby per person. Our sons has already fell in love with electronic music and always make funny dance motions during making or listening to tracks by us. Our project was born approximately 2002-2003 years but there was not a serious approach to music until 2006. In 2006 we began to be more active with producing and already in 2007 our first track was released on Tilthmusic label. From that time the project has created quite a lot of tracks and remixes and isn't going to stop. In 2008 a great person, our friend (we call him a brother) virtually joined us. His name is Stiven Rivic, a DJ, producer and a professional football player living and playing in Germany. Our trio decided to create our own label named Mistiquemusic.

As we said, you have been running the Mistique label for a few years now and I think it is fair to say that the music released on this great label is really unique. How would you describe it and how are you thinking about what you sign to the label and not? What do the tracks need to have to make it fit in as a Mistique release?

We are very glad that you like releases from our label and the work done by us. As listeners already had time to notice, the label mainly positions music in progressive house & breaks style. A lot of material is sent to us, we try to select the best and close on label sounding .Sometimes there are also tracks that didn´t quite fit into the framework of demanded style, but going to be released because of subjective reasons I t happens that way because some work appears so beautiful and qualitative that we shut our eyes to these frameworks and sign the contract with producer with pleasure. For such purposes is the sub-label Mistique Digital mainly used. Also Mistique Emotion exists for ambient/chill/downtempo tracks and Mistique Dream for trance music, which has his own A & R manager- great producer Styller.

As for your own productions, could you tell us a little how you think and work when you build a track from start to finish? Any secrets that you can reveal to us reading this?

Basically first of all we try to create percussion, kick and bass. Especially Levan likes to create his tracks in such way. Michael operates in another way, he starts from atmospheric sounds (pads, strings, etc). But the big work on a track is made basically by Levan. This phrase sounds as work, but actually we take pleasure from such work. It is very pleasant when you can realize the ideas in the musical plan. You receive natural euphoria from all of it. Stiven works with us from distance. It is basically the critics, the inspirer and idea feeder in the name of his works which we process and give the definitive and complete form to a track.

What equipment do you work with? Do you create your music with both hardware and software? Any specific vsti’s that you work a lot with?

From hardware we use the soundcard E-mu 1616м, midi keyboard E-mu Xboard25 and monitors Dynaudio BM5. They certainly very strongly help us with our work, especially in the nuances concerning quality of sound. Huge thanks to our brother Stiven who helped us to get all these devices. Software we use is FL Studio, plenty of VST synthesizers and effects, especially big respects to products of Native Instruments, Waves, Spectrasonics. It´s a lot of others, really hard to list all of them.

How do you work? Of course we know that you make lot of remixes, also own productions , running the label but do you also work as a DJ? Is there any of this that you se as more important than other things?

Michael is not a DJ, only producer. But Levan is well-known DJ in the world. He is often invited to various parties. We also have a radio show with our own mixes and guest mixes. The show is called “Reverberations” on Pure FM. It´s aired every second Friday of the month on 7.00 PM GMT were people can listen to our show. We are often guests on various radio shows to, so schedule is pretty intense, but we love to do it all.

If you get to mention a few producers that inspire you, who would you mention then and why?

Kliment for example. Kay-D often pleases us, Timewave, new but already a bright star. We also love the music of Russian producer Ilya Malyuev. Blue Haze is very pleasant to. There is plenty of them, way to many to count.

What other things inspire you to create the great music that you produce?

Our children first of all. They play the most important role in our lifes and in our music. They give us such burst of energy which creates lot of different ideas for producing. There is also different stressful conditions or on the contrary very positive moments in life, giving a push for ideas. Emotions are capable of much in our lifes. Without them humans just can’t create any of the art as it seems to us. The big inspirer for us as we told is our brother Stiven who often pushes us if we do nothing :) or feeds us with different ideas which are picked up by us. In November 2010 Levan was invited by him to Germany and they were working together there. It was their first real meeting and Levan was admired by the hospitality of Stiven and his girlfriend Emina. They were working mainly on the album, while Michael was listening to that work, rating this or that track.

What is there to look out for in the coming months from Michael & Levan and the Mistique label? Could you tell us a little what we can expect from you, with remix work and upcoming original releases?

As we told you in the previous sentence our trio is going to release an album on our label. We think it will be finished in February or March. Basically music will be in our favourite style, progressive house and may be 1 or 2 ambient tracks will be included. Also we are going to release many beautiful tracks this year from other great producers. We also plan to change main webpage of the label to make it more attractive for our viewers and followers. We hope all our ideas and plans will find the way.

A lot of the music today is not sold, it’s spread through internet and musicians hardly make any money at all on their productions. What are your thoughts about the sharing through blogspots, forums and all other ways for illegal sharing of music?

This problem has 2 sides. Earlier we often were angry about it finding this or that track for free downloading. But time has passed on and already there is no disappointment. Even, to tell the true, we personally are not incited radically against sharing of tracks. Certainly we are not pleased to find music shared. Sure it won’t add money to the producers and the label. On the other hand, it can add bigger popularity. Also quite often the musician himself uses piracy software for producing without buying it. Something like a vicious circle. This problem is very wide and we think it is utopian. We can be disappointed or not, but hardly the situation will change to the better side for both musicians and creators of the software. It is better not to think very much about it. Much better way is to simply create music.

From all of us at Progressive House Worldwide, a really big thank you for doing this interview, we appreciate it a lot. Hope to hear more from you in a near future, your music is always a pleasure to listen to!
