Apparat mixes DJ KiCKS !K7 has tapped the Berlin-based producer for their next mix [img]http://www.residentadvisor.net/images/news/2010/apparat-dj-kicks.jpg[/img] German producer Sasha Ring, AKA Apparat, is next in line for !K7's DJ KiCKS series. To date, Apparat has been known more as a producer than a DJ, having garnered acclaim for his productions with Ellen Allien and more recently Modeselektor (as Moderat), as well as his own albums on Shitkatapult. Especially when working on his own, Apparat blends intricate sound design with a feeling of melancholy–a sound that's reflected in the tracklist for his DJ KiCKS, which includes selections by Oval, Autechre and Thom Yorke. Nonetheless, Apparat says the mix shows him trying to break away from his usual mood. "I guess the bittersweet-ness has long been kind of my thing and with this mix I was just trying to spice it up a bit," he says. "There's a lot of sweetness on there, but it is dark and mysterious at points." Apparat's DJ KiCKS isn't only contemplative: tracks by Patrice Baumel, Martyn and Ramadanman help give the mix a steady pulse. "I didn't want to make this kind of 'smart' mix, that's eclectic and sounds like it's done 'on purpose,'" he says. "But I need to do different things to keep myself motivated." The compilation also features a previously unreleased tune by Telefon Tel Aviv, plus two of Apparat's own exclusive productions. !K7 will release Apparat's DJ KiCKS on October 26, 2010. Ik ben erg tevreden met de keus voor Apparat iig, erg lekkere mix en Sayulita is helemaal top!! |
