I really don't think that Radio 1 will have any involvement in Extrema Outdoor this year despite the fact that Pete Tong is playing. I'm basing this on a few reasons:
Firstly, Radio 1 are already involved in the Gatecrasher Summer Soundsystem, Coloursfest, Planet Love and Global Gathering (which is the week after Extrema) this summer so I don't see there being any room for another dance festival on their agenda.
Secondly, all the summer Radio 1 events are listed here and there is no mention of Extrema.
Thirdly, Radio 1 are down to do the Exit festival in Serbia again this year and although it's not exclusively a dance festival, all their coverage last year was of the DJ's. This will probably be their only involvement in a European festival this summer (with the exception of their annual Ibiza weekend).
Lastly, doesn't Extrema have a contract with 2FM in Holland as their official radio station? Unless that has broken down I can't see them allowing Radio 1 to come on board too. It might even be that some of the sets will be recorded and played back on the Essential mix but I don't think they will cover it live.
I hope that I'm wrong and Radio 1 will be involved as Extrema Outdoor is an excellent festival that deserves to have the kind of international coverage and recognition that Radio 1's involvement can bring. Most people in the UK aren't really aware of Extrema Outdoor though as Dance Valley is seen as the main festival to go to in Holland, although the tide does seem to be turning after DV's relatively poor performance last year.
I'd love to get over for Extrema again this year but I'm going to Pukkelpop a few weeks later and, with a baby now here as well, it's not easy or financially viable to just nip away for a couple of days! The line up is looking pretty strong already and it's good that they have got some of the best DJ's from last year (Desyn and Steve Lawler) back again. I've got a funny feeling that Pete Tong may be headlining the main stage this year which wouldn't be too bad as he always gets the party going, even if his mixing can be a bit dodgy
As long as the weather is nice it will be a brilliant day regardless of who is playing
